The very last thing Richie wants to do today is go shopping. But Bev had asked, said she needed help finding stuff, so Richie's there anyway. He could be at the arcade. He could be hanging out with— and maybe even kissing— Regan.

Christmas isn't for weeks, so he doesn't see the point of doing this now when there's still time. But he's tagging along anyway, carrying a few bags for Bev as they head to the next store in the mall that she wants to check out. They don't hang out as much these days as they used to, even now that they go to the same school, and there's a part of him that feels guilty for that. They're Losers, and nothing is supposed to come between them. Not school or new parents or girlfriends or boyfriends.

He wishes they were hanging out at the arcade instead, though.

"I think you've reached your limit on parsels, my good Lady! It may be time to retire for the evening, wot-wot," Richie says, putting on a Voice, if only because he's pretty bored. This sucks.

Little by little, Beverly has been saving up money to get Christmas presents. She knows it's probably not that big a deal, that most people won't be expecting anything and won't be insulted if she doesn't get them a gift. It's nice to be able to, though, and nicer still to have friends — and a guardian — she wants to get things for at all. There are still days that strikes her as completely, wonderfully surreal, even when a part of her can't help but wonder if they're going to move on without her, Eddie and Richie both in relationships now, and the two of them and Stan having been friends for ages before she came into the picture.

Today, though, she's not letting herself worry about that. Shopping is a good way of getting out of her head, actually, a welcome distraction from some of the shit that's been weighing on her, and while she's sure this isn't Richie's favorite way of spending an afternoon, he's at least been a good sport about it.

"I just want to check this one last store," she promises with a grin. "Then we can go get food or something."

"It won't just be clothes, I promise," Beverly says, teasingly rolling her eyes at him. "And I've been saving." It's been easy to do when she's not used to having a lot of spending money anyway. She hasn't put aside all of it, spending some on herself occasionally, but trying to hold on to what she has is a habit deeply ingrained in her after growing up with very little. Even having been here for almost two years now, it's still sort of a weird adjustment, realizing that she doesn't have to worry about money like she used to.

"Which I'm gonna guess you haven't done at all, huh?"

"Why am I so not surprised?" Beverly asks rhetorically, shaking her head at Richie in amusement. It's not like it's actually a big deal. Any exchanging of gifts they do will probably be small, fairly inexpensive ones; she doubts anyone will be expecting more than that. Given the opportunity, though, and the fact that she's been saving up for a while, she can't resist giving him a bit of a hard time over it.

"You know you've kinda got limited time for this, right?"

"I don't know," Beverly says, shrugging. "Nobody's planned anything." If their other friends are buying gifts or not, she hasn't heard one way or the other yet. There's plenty of time, anyway, and she wouldn't be surprised if Richie isn't the only one who was going to wait until the last minute. Even if no one else buys presents, though, she'll be glad to have figured out something small for each of her friends. She's still barely used to having them in the first place.

"It'll be fine."

"Maybe?" Beverly makes a face, uncertain. Aside from being completely unsurprised that Richie hasn't bought any presents yet, it's hard to guess at who will and who won't. If Regan gets anyone anything, though, she thinks it'll probably be Richie, and that it's also probably better to be on the safe side. Better to have something and be the only one than to turn up empty-handed. Not that she'll care if any of her friends don't get her gifts, but none of them is her boyfriend, so it seems sort of different.

"You might at least want to look for something for her, if not anyone else."
